NEC wins 1st prize for poster competition at BARS Conference in Birmingham.
We attend the BARS Conference on 19th September 2025 in Birmingham. This was an excellent showcase of the industry, with excellent speakers providing insight into the challenges and opportunities that shape retinal screening programmes. It was a particular highlight to hear from young service users from the charity group Together Type 1, which gave great insight into the issues faced by young diabetics. Other highlights included an interesting talk on Best Practice for Evaluating AI for screening given by Alicja Rudnicka and the key not speaker Professor Sarita Jacob who gave a talk on the Management of Diabetic Retinopathy and Maculopathy in 2025.
There were some excellent entries in the poster competition with NEC Care Ireland’s poster ‘Age related retention and non-attendance in a two-year diabetic retinopathy screening pathway’ winning first place. This poster was created by Ruth McCarthy (NEC), Shane McMahon (NEC), Joanne Harmon (NEC), Prof David Keegan (HSE) and Caoife Shine (NEC). It was an honour to have our work recognised by the esteemed judging panel.
