Revenue Scotland selects NPS to provide service to its stakeholders

Revenue Scotland, the tax authority responsible for Scotland’s wholly devolved taxes, has announced, following an open and transparent procurement process, that it has signed a deal worth £3.5 million with NPS.  The contract will see NPS’ software used to facilitate the collection and management of the devolved taxes, including Land and Buildings Transaction Tax (LBTT), and  Scottish Landfill Tax (SLfT) and in due course, Air Departure Tax.

Since being established in 2015, Revenue Scotland has collected over £1.5 billion in total across the two wholly devolved taxes, and more than £700m in the last year.  NPS will provide an enhanced online system that will enable Revenue Scotland to build on their strong track record for the delivery of digital public services, improve their current processes and more easily accommodate any new taxes as they are introduced. The NPS team will work closely with Revenue Scotland to develop a user-centred system.

Stephen Callaghan, chief executive officer, NPS said:

“Our technology is already responsible for collecting 60% of Scottish council tax and business rates so we are the ideal partner for Revenue Scotland.  The solution will have the ability to meet both current and future tax requirements.  Our focus is on helping Revenue Scotland meet the needs of the people they serve.”

Elaine Lorimer, chief executive of Revenue Scotland, said:

“We are looking forward to working with NPS and our stakeholder community to introduce a new system that will reflect the experience we have gained over our first three years of operations. Our new system and partnership with NPS will enable us to continue delivering excellent public services while helping us to achieve the strategic objectives set out in our corporate plan.”

NPS works with every local authority in Scotland.
