In partnership with Queen’s University Belfast, NEC Health is supporting World Sight Day 2025 to promote innovation, accessibility, and improved eye health across the UK and Ireland.
Every October, World Sight Day brings global focus to the importance of accessible, available, and affordable eye care for all. Marking its 25th anniversary in 2025, the initiative continues to unite organisations, clinicians, and communities around the shared goal of preventing avoidable sight loss and improving access to eye health services worldwide.
In recognition of this milestone, NEC Health is proud to sponsor and exhibit at World Sight Day 2025 and Pan-Ireland Ophthalmology Day 2025, organised by Queen’s University Belfast.
The two one-day events bring together clinicians, researchers, and industry partners to share innovation and best practice in eye health. Over two days, our NEC OptoMize team will showcase how we support diabetic eye screening programmes across the UK and Ireland, helping to detect disease earlier, improve outcomes, and make life easier for screening teams.
Trusted by national screening programmes in Scotland, Wales, Northern Ireland, Jersey, and the Republic of Ireland, as well as most in England, OptoMize screens more than two million people every year for diabetes-related eye disease. Designed by clinicians, for clinicians, it automates key processes, enhances imaging workflows, and improves accessibility for patients.
Our NEC OptoMize team will be on hand to connect with delegates and demonstrate how NEC’s diabetic eye screening software supports earlier detection, better patient outcomes, and improved operational efficiency.
This year also marks the launch of the Online Portal for OptoMize, which replaces print-based letters with secure, real-time digital communications. The portal improves patient engagement, reduces admin, cuts costs, and contributes to a more sustainable NHS, aligning directly with World Sight Day’s call for equitable and accessible eye care.
As experts in national screening programmes, NEC works in partnership with the NHS, NHS Scotland, and HSE Ireland to deliver reliable, scalable, and sustainable solutions that help meet growing demand.
