Arun District Council moves to cloud GIS

Arun District Council (ADC) has been using SIS web mapping technology since 2014. It is deployed throughout the council and is accessible to the public via the council’s website.

When the existing contract came up for renewal, ADC took the opportunity to migrate to cloud web mapping using the government G-Cloud framework.

The move fits the council’s transition plan to move services to cloud-hosted environments and to ultimately improve resilience and reduce the reliance on internal ICT staff.

Existing web mapping licences are being transitioned from on-premise to a cloud-hosted and managed environment. The council will benefit from SIS WebMap with Local Knowledge™, and the Edit and ReportIT modules. The council are also taking advantage of the Spatial Database Service and Ordnance Survey MasterMap® Topographic Vector Service. This will give them quick and easy access to the latest vector OS MasterMap Topography Layer.The software and Ordnance Survey mapping updates will be managed on the council’s behalf.

Migrating GIS technology to the cloud can bring a significant number of benefits to an organisation. It has the potential to reduce both the overall cost of ownership and the administration overhead of keeping software and data up to date.
