NEC to Sponsor the British Association of Retinal Screeners Annual Conference 2025
NEC Software Solutions will be sponsoring and exhibiting at this year’s British Association of Retinal Screeners (BARS) Annual Conference, taking place on 19 September 2025 at the Holiday Inn Birmingham City Centre.
The BARS Annual Conference brings together over 100 professionals from across the UK diabetic eye screening community, including screeners, graders, clinical leads, and programme managers, to share best practice, explore innovation, and discuss the future of retinal screening services.
Our NEC OptoMize team will be on hand throughout the day to connect with delegates and demonstrate how NEC’s diabetic eye screening software supports earlier detection, better patient outcomes, and improved operational efficiency.
We’ll also be introducing the new Online Portal for NEC OptoMize, a digital-first module that replaces print-based letters with instant, secure patient communications, reducing admin, cutting costs, and supporting a lower carbon footprint.

In addition to our exhibition stand, NEC will be presenting a series of posters that highlight innovation and service improvements in diabetic eye screening, building on our track record in previous BARS poster competitions. Highlights include new approaches such as 9-field imaging and OCT, which improve detection and refine referrals, alongside audits on extended screening intervals and outcomes in older patients. Other posters focus on practical ways to raise uptake, from targeted interventions in Central Mersey to improving paediatric attendance, showing how NEC-supported programmes are delivering better efficiency, earlier detection, and stronger patient engagement across the UK and Ireland.
